Paint on my sidewalk or street

Category: General Questions

The main purpose for markings in the street or on the sidewalk, or little plastic flags in grass areas, is to indicate where pipes, ducts, cables, and other structures are located so that they’re not hit or destroyed during construction.

The color used identifies the type of utility:

Red: Power
Pink: Temporary Power
Blue: Water
White: Extent of construction
Orange: Telecommunications
Yellow: Natural Gas
Green: Sanitary sewer
Purple: Reclaimed water

Arizona law requires property owners and contractors to contact Arizona 811 to have underground utilities located and marked before starting any project that includes moving earth such as digging, trenching, or drilling.

To request utility markings on your property please visit www.arizona811.com or call 811.

The city does not complete these markings and your request will be addressed more quickly by contacting Arizona 811 directly.
