Preparing for a Protective Order / Injuction Against Harassment Hearing / Injunction Against Workplace Harassment

Category: General Questions

Below is information to help you prepare for your Hearing:

  • Please arrive before your scheduled hearing time
  • Check in with the clerk in the courtroom
  • Have your witnesses and evidence with you and ready to present to the judge
  • Evidence must be either printed out or on a CD that the Court can keep
  • The Court cannot accept evidence on a USB flash drive, smartphone, laptop, or any other electronic device
  • If the officer has dashboard or body camera video, you will be able to view it before your hearing starts
  • The judge will decide if evidence presented is relevant and if it will be admitted as part of your case

At the hearing you will be able to give testimony and present witnesses and evidence specific to the allegations on the petition you have to the judge. You will be able to ask questions of the Plaintiff/Defendant and witnesses about their testimony.

After hearing from both sides, the judge will make a ruling of whether the order remains in effect or modified or dismissed.

If you need a continuance, a written Motion to Continue must be filed and received by the Court prior to the hearing date.  Continuances cannot be requested by phone.  Motions to Continue are NOT automatically granted. You can write your own motion or print a copy from the Court’s website and fax or mail it to the Court.
